India NGO awards announced

The India NGO 2006 awards launched by Resource Alliance in partnership with Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation has been announced.
Gram Vikas and Pradaan were the top winners.
Gram Vikas serves nearly two lakh people across 559 villages in Orissa. Their commitment has been to bring the marginalized back to the social mainstream.
Pradaan was set up in 1983 to eradicate poverty with the help of educated professionals. They started with the objective to promote women's self help groups rural micro enterprises and livelihood programmes.
The group has over 250 professionals in its fold.
“It is tough because those people are concerned about careers and their future. A lot of people think NGO's are bad and corrupt but there some black sheep but for the black ones… there are good ones too,” Deep Joshi, the programme director of Pradaan said.
