The award has been instituted to recognise non-profit organisations for following good standards and practices in resource mobilisation, accountability and transparency.

The Resource Alliance—an international organisation committed to help not-for-profit organisations attain financial sustainability, on Friday initiated ‘The India NGO Award 2006’ and asked NGO’s in the region to compete in the awards. Supported by ‘The Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation,’ the award has been instituted to recognise non-profit organisations for following good standards and practices in resource mobilisation, accountability and transparency. S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research-Centre for Development of Corporate Citizenship is the partner for the award in Western India. The award will carry total prize money of Rs 1.6mn. NGOs from all over India will be invited to enter the competition.

Usha Menon, Chairperson, Resource Alliance said, “The Resource Alliance promotes capacity building for non-profit organisations across the globe in terms of better resource mobilisation and transparency. In India, the NGO sector is a vibrant one as organisations move from informal to formal setups. The India NGO Award 2006 is an initiative to encourage non-profit organisations in this country to aspire to meet and exceed best practices. I hope NGO’s from the region will come forward and compete in the awards.”
