Payal Randhawa
Payal manages the Foundation's Khemka Awards program. Trained as a filmmaker, her main focus is on social and community development work with extensive experience in educational film and television programming.
As a documentary filmmaker, Payal has produced films on various subjects from the environment and wildlife, to HIV-AIDS, health and education. She has been a freelance film producer for the Consortium of Educational Communication, Indira Gandhi Open University and the National Open School. Her series, the Human Mind, won awards for Best Film of the Year and Best Formative Research in the 1996-1997 UGC-CEC educational film festival.
Payal has produced films for many civil society organisations—Sir Ratan Tata Trust, STEP Foundation, Commonwealth Educational Media in Asia to name a few. Her production of films for non-profits led her to switch careers. In 2003 she joined Pravah, an NGO working in the area of youth and citizenship action, in a senior leadership position. Payal also served as a Program Coordinator-Youth Intervention at Pravah, where she headed their youth social entrepreneurship award program “Change Looms”. Launched in partnership with Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, the program seeks to recognise and encourage young people engaged with civil society processes.
A trained facilitator, Payal has coordinated and facilitated workshops on conflict resolution and life skills with young people.
